My (30 M) blood test results after being on fin/dut for 3 years Finasteride/Dutasteride 10/22/2025
A 30-year-old male has been on finasteride/dutasteride for 3 years, with stable but still receding hairline, and blood tests showing high total testosterone but normal DHT and free testosterone levels. Despite challenges in gaining muscle, he maintains a good physique with a consistent lifting routine and recently improved results with creatine.

Dutasteride significantly reduces DHT levels, potentially more effectively than finasteride, and is used to treat hair loss. Some users report side effects like reduced libido and mood changes, while others experience hair regrowth and increased testosterone.
community Finasteride , creatine and muscle growth
Finasteride does not significantly affect muscle gains and can slightly increase testosterone levels. Creatine is generally considered safe to use with finasteride, though some believe it may increase DHT levels, potentially affecting hair loss.
community Got bloodwork done today before starting on Fin (and possibly creatine) - would like some guidance
A user is considering finasteride for hair loss and is concerned about its effects on DHT levels and potential side effects, including those from creatine. The user seeks advice on finasteride's impact on hair and body hair, given their high DHT and testosterone levels.
community Majority of online anecdotes have balding men saying their hair got worse on creatine but research says it doesn’t raise DHT, where does truth lie?
Some users report creatine worsens hair loss, while others see no effect, suggesting individual differences. Treatments mentioned include finasteride, minoxidil, and dutasteride.
community Why creatine and gym cause MPD
Gym and creatine can cause hair loss by increasing testosterone and androgenic activity. DHT blockers may help some, while others need androgen suppression with topical AA like RU or Pyri.

This study found that coadministration of 5α-reductase inhibitors with oral testosterone in oil significantly increases serum testosterone levels in medically castrated men compared to testosterone alone, with food intake minimally affecting these levels.
research Finasteride and Dutasteride in the Treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia: Risk or Benefit?
This article discusses how 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors like finasteride and dutasteride are used to treat androgenetic alopecia, while highlighting the ongoing debate over their potential side effects, including sexual dysfunction and psychological issues.
research Change in hair growth-related gene expression profile in human isolated hair follicles induced by 5-alpha reductase inhibitors – dutasteride and finasteride – in the presence of testosterone
This study suggests that type I 5-alpha reductase may also play a role in hair growth, with dutasteride potentially being more potent than finasteride in modulating key hair growth gene expressions.

This study found that testosterone may promote glioblastoma progression by being converted into dihydrotestosterone, which enhances cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in GBM cell lines.
research Development of a Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry-Based Inhibition Assay for the Screening of Steroid 5-α Reductase in Human and Fish Cell Lines
In this study, researchers developed a sensitive assay to measure the inhibition of steroid 5-α reductase (5AR) by chemicals like finasteride and dutasteride, revealing species-specific differences in inhibitor efficacy between human and fish cell lines.
