September 2023 in “World Rabbit Science” The study investigated the role of the FRZB gene in hair follicle development in Angora rabbits through the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Using cell culture, transfection, apoptosis, and proliferation assays, it was found that overexpression of FRZB inhibited SFRP2, BMP4, and WNT2 genes while up-regulating LEF1, CCND1, DKK1, and TCF7 genes. The luciferase reporter system showed that pcDNA3.1-FRZB inhibits Wnt activity, promoting apoptosis and inhibiting proliferation in dermal papilla cells. The conclusion is that FRZB inhibits hair follicle development by regulating the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway.
