A miscarriage, also known as spontaneous abortion, is the loss of a pregnancy before the 20th week. It often occurs due to chromosomal abnormalities in the developing fetus, but can also be influenced by maternal health conditions, lifestyle factors, and environmental exposures. Symptoms may include vaginal bleeding, cramping, and the passage of tissue.
