Glossary Senolytics

Senolytics are a class of drugs or compounds that selectively induce apoptosis in senescent cells, which are cells that have stopped dividing and contribute to aging and age-related diseases. In the context of hair loss, senescent cells can accumulate in hair follicles, potentially disrupting normal hair cycling and contributing to conditions like androgenetic alopecia. By targeting these cells, senolytics may help rejuvenate hair follicles and promote healthier hair growth, making them a promising area of research in hair biology and regenerative medicine. Key distinguishing characteristics of senolytics include their ability to specifically eliminate senescent cells without affecting healthy, proliferating cells.
