March 2018 in “John Wiley & Sons, Ltd eBooks” Surgical therapies for vitiligo vary in effectiveness, with combination therapy and medical tattooing recommended for better results.
January 2020 in “Global dermatology” The study evaluated the effect of iontophoresis with a growth factor cocktail (GFC) containing fibroblast growth factor 5-short (FGF5s) on hair growth in 21 patients with androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Over 24 weeks, the right side of the scalp was treated with GFC and the left side with saline. Results showed a significant increase in hair density from 179.2±5.5/cm² to 193.9±5.3/cm² (p<0.0001) and a slight increase in hair diameter from 54.9±2.3 mm to 55.3±2.3 mm (p<0.0565) on the GFC-treated side, while the saline-treated side showed no significant changes. The study concluded that iontophoresis with GFC including FGF5s was effective for hair growth in AGA patients, but further research is needed to assess long-term efficacy.

January 2022 in “Indian Dermatology Online Journal” Oral minoxidil (OM) is a promising treatment for patterned hair loss, offering a safe and effective alternative to topical minoxidil, especially for those with side effects or poor compliance with topical forms. Despite limited clinical trials, epidemiological data and recent studies, including a multicenter study of 1,404 patients, indicate that low-dose OM is well-tolerated and effective, with typical dosages lower for females (0.25–1.25 mg/day) than males (2.5–5 mg/day). OM has shown positive results in male-patterned and female-patterned hair loss and may improve long-term adherence due to its convenience and fewer side effects. Further research is needed to explore its efficacy in other alopecia types and its potential as a monotherapy or adjunctive treatment.
