presence of additional medical conditions alongside a primary condition

Comorbidities refer to the presence of one or more additional medical conditions co-occurring with a primary condition. For example, a person with alopecia might also have comorbidities such as diabetes or thyroid disease. These coexisting conditions can complicate diagnosis, treatment, and overall management of the primary condition.
