    Chickenpox, also known as varicella, is a highly contagious viral infection caused by the varicella-zoster virus. It is characterized by an itchy rash with red spots and blisters, typically starting on the face, back, and chest before spreading to the rest of the body. While generally mild in children, it can lead to serious complications in adults, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals. Vaccination is available and effective in preventing the disease.
