This study investigates the relationship between male androgenetic alopecia and dry eye, as well as meibomian gland function, by evaluating 80 eyes from 80 patients, split evenly between those with androgenetic alopecia and healthy controls. Results indicate that patients with androgenetic alopecia have significantly lower Schirmer I test scores and tear film break-up time (TBUT), and higher Ocular Surface Disease Index and Oxford scale scores, suggesting more severe dry eye symptoms. Additionally, meibomian gland dysfunction was more pronounced in the androgenetic alopecia group, with higher total, upper, and lower gland scores. These findings suggest a potential association between androgenetic alopecia and both dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction, highlighting the need for careful monitoring of these conditions in affected individuals.
