research Formulation of Hair Gels Based on Mango Pectin and Makoré Butter

January 2026 in “Saudi Journal of Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences”
This study explored the development of hair gels using mango pectin and "makoré" butter as a natural treatment for traction alopecia, particularly common among black women. Two formulations, D and D′, were created and analyzed. The gels were homogeneous, with a characteristic odor, but unstable under centrifugation. Microscopic analysis showed that gel D had a better distribution of globules. Over 28 days, both gels maintained good microbiological stability and remained stable at 25 ± 2°C. Rheological tests indicated shear thinning, viscoelastic, and thixotropic properties. Gel D showed promising properties for hair care, suggesting its potential as a phytocosmetic solution for managing traction alopecia.
