Glossary3D Skin Models (3D Skin Constructs)

laboratory-engineered tissues that mimic human skin structure

3D Skin Models, also known as Three-Dimensional Skin Constructs or 3D Skin Equivalents, are laboratory-engineered tissues that mimic the structure and function of human skin. These models are created using layers of different cell types, such as keratinocytes and fibroblasts, to replicate the epidermis and dermis. They are used in research and testing to study skin biology, disease, and the effects of cosmetics or pharmaceuticals, providing a more accurate alternative to traditional 2D cell cultures and reducing the need for animal testing.
