research HPLC/MS Characterization and Evaluation of the Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Properties of Algerian Medicinal Plant: Carthamus Caeruleus L. Extracts
The study on Carthamus caeruleus L. extracts reveals significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, supporting its traditional medicinal use. The hydromethanolic extract showed higher phenolic and flavonoid content, with strong lipid peroxidation inhibition and high total antioxidant capacity. Key compounds identified include feruloylquinic acid and a ferulic acid derivative. In vitro, the extract inhibited nitric oxide production and reduced erythrocyte hemolysis and protein denaturation. In vivo, it reduced paw inflammation in mice by 53.57% at 1000 mg/kg. These results suggest its potential as a source of therapeutic agents, warranting further research to isolate active constituents.
