    Glossary Immune response modifier

substance that alters immune system reactions to threats

An immune response modifier is a substance that can alter the way the immune system reacts to various threats, such as infections or diseases. These modifiers can either boost the immune response to help fight off pathogens or suppress it to reduce inflammation and autoimmunity. For example, in the context of alopecia, certain immune response modifiers might be used to prevent the immune system from attacking hair follicles, thereby reducing hair loss.
