tiny, cylindrical structures encircling hair shafts, often mistaken for lice eggs

Hair casts, also known as pseudonits, are tiny, cylindrical, white or yellowish structures that encircle the hair shaft. They can be mistaken for lice eggs (nits) but are actually composed of keratin and other debris. Hair casts can be easily moved along the hair shaft and are often associated with conditions like seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis.
