    Glossary Pegylated Interferon

modified interferon with polyethylene glycol for prolonged therapeutic effect

Pegylated Interferon, often abbreviated as PEG-IFN, is a modified form of interferon used to treat certain viral infections and cancers. The "pegylation" process involves attaching polyethylene glycol (PEG) molecules to the interferon, which helps to prolong its presence in the bloodstream, reduce the frequency of dosing, and minimize side effects. This modification enhances the therapeutic efficacy and patient compliance compared to standard interferon treatments.
