    GlossaryComplementary DNA (cDNA)

form of DNA synthesized from an mRNA template

Complementary DNA (cDNA) is a form of DNA synthesized from a messenger RNA (mRNA) template in a process called reverse transcription. This type of DNA is often used in gene cloning or as a probe in the study of gene expression because it represents only the expressed genes of an organism, excluding non-coding regions.
