Carotid Intima-Media Thickness (CIMT) is a measurement of the thickness of the inner two layers of the carotid artery, which supplies blood to the brain. This measurement is often used as an indicator of atherosclerosis (plaque buildup in the arteries) and cardiovascular disease risk. By using ultrasound imaging, healthcare professionals can assess CIMT to help predict the likelihood of future cardiovascular events like heart attacks or strokes.
