Glossary Abiraterone

inhibits androgen production to treat prostate cancer

Abiraterone, also known as Zytiga, is a medication used primarily to treat prostate cancer. It works by inhibiting an enzyme called CYP17, which is involved in the production of androgens (male hormones) that can fuel the growth of prostate cancer cells. By reducing androgen levels, abiraterone helps to slow the progression of the disease.
