TLDR Non-informative YouTube videos on ingrown toenails get more views, but videos by podiatrists are the highest quality.
This study analyzed 100 YouTube videos on ingrown toenails, focusing on narrator types, viewer engagement, content distribution, and video quality. It found that non-informative videos garnered more views and engagement than educational ones. Most informative videos were produced by podiatrists and physicians, with a focus on surgical treatments, while nail technicians emphasized cosmetic and conservative approaches. Videos by podiatrists received the highest quality scores, whereas dermatologists were notably absent. Despite YouTube's lack of regulation, it is positive that most videos are created by doctors, though content quality varies. The study suggests that dermatologists could enhance public knowledge by contributing accurate, up-to-date videos.
