TLDR Obesity worsens wound healing, and more research is needed to understand why.
Obesity is increasingly common and is linked to diseases like diabetes and coronary heart disease, which can lead to poor wound healing outcomes. Despite progress in understanding wound healing in healthy and diabetic individuals, there is limited knowledge about how obesity specifically affects this process. This review highlights the need to explore the impact of obesity on wound healing and suggests using various animal models to enhance our understanding. As obesity rates rise, it is crucial to uncover the mechanisms behind impaired wound healing in obese patients to improve their health outcomes.
