Review Article: White Piedra - Analysis of 131 Cases

    This review article examines 131 cases of White Piedra, focusing on clinical characteristics and demographics. The study found that 91.6% of the subjects were female, with most being 18 years old or younger. The majority of cases were reported in Brazil, India, and Mexico. Trichosporon spp was identified as the most common etiologic agent in 34.3% of cases. Most patients were asymptomatic (94.6%), with predisposing factors including long hair, use of hair accessories, and wet hair. The presence of nodules was the most common clinical feature. The study highlights the challenge in evaluating treatment effectiveness due to limited follow-up data, concluding that White Piedra is more prevalent in young women and linked to hair-related factors.
