TLDR Vitamin D deficiency is linked to a higher chance of metabolic syndrome in women with PCOS.
The study involved 120 women, 80 with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and 40 without. It found that lower levels of Vitamin D were significantly associated with the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in patients with PCOS. Specifically, for every unit decrease in Vitamin D, the odds of having metabolic syndrome increased by 7%. Vitamin D levels were also found to correlate negatively with waist circumference, Body Mass Index (BMI), and blood pressure, and positively with Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG). Despite no significant differences in Vitamin D levels between women with and without PCOS, patients with PCOS have a significantly higher incidence of metabolic syndrome and other related conditions.
