TLDR A 4-year-old boy with a rare type of rickets and hair loss improved in bone health but not hair growth after vitamin D and calcium treatment.
A 4-year-old boy with Vitamin D-dependent rickets type II (VDDR type II) and alopecia was reported, showing typical symptoms such as hair loss and difficulty walking. Despite treatment with high doses of vitamin D and calcium, which improved biochemical parameters and bone conditions, no improvement in alopecia was observed. This case highlighted the rarity of VDDR type II with alopecia and the need for high doses of vitamin D for treatment, although alopecia may persist. The study emphasized the importance of recognizing VDDR type II in patients presenting with rickets and alopecia.
