TLDR Topical anaesthesia reduces injection pain better than a vibrating device.
This preliminary study investigated the effectiveness of a vibrating device compared to topical anaesthetic gel in reducing pain during local anaesthesia injections. Patients received three injections with different preparations: no anaesthesia, 20% benzocaine topical anaesthesia, and a vibrating stimulus. Pain was assessed using a visual analogue scale. Statistical analysis revealed that the application of topical anaesthesia was more effective in reducing discomfort than the vibrating device, concluding that topical anaesthesia was superior to vibration for pain reduction during injections.
