TLDR The visfatin GT genotype may increase the risk of Alopecia Areata.
This study investigated the relationship between vaspin and visfatin -4689G/T gene polymorphisms and Alopecia Areata (AA) susceptibility in 80 AA patients and 80 healthy controls from the Turkish population. The results showed no significant difference in vaspin genotypes and allele distribution between AA patients and controls. However, the visfatin GT genotype was more prevalent in AA patients, indicating a higher likelihood of AA compared to the GG genotype [OR (95% CI) = 2.11 (1.04-4.27), p = 0.03]. The study concludes that while vaspin polymorphisms are not associated with AA, the visfatin GT genotype may be a risk factor for AA.
