TLDR Hair can reliably measure average estradiol levels over months in humans and monkeys.
The study validated a hair bioassay methodology to capture stable estradiol levels from human and monkey hair samples. It involved three projects: Project 1 with 11 women, Project 2 with 23 adolescents, and Project 3 with 8 monkeys. Results showed significant correlations between hair and saliva estradiol levels, and between successive hair segments, indicating that hair can reliably reflect average estradiol concentrations over months. The double-extraction protocol proved effective, suggesting that hair measurement is a feasible and reliable method for assessing long-term estradiol levels in both humans and monkeys.
