TLDR The methods tested are reliable for assessing dandruff reduction.
This study involving 12 adult subjects with mild to moderate dandruff validated the reliability and correlation of three assessment techniques: Adherent Scalp Flaking Score (ASFS), phototrichogram using CASLite Nova, and the 60-second hair combing test. Post-hair wash, significant reductions in dandruff were observed across all methods, with ASFS showing a 71.40% reduction. Phototrichogram analysis indicated that 60.42% of scalp zones were in normal condition post-wash, and the hair combing test showed a decrease in non-adherent flakes. The study confirmed significant correlations between ASFS and phototrichogram results, with substantial inter-evaluator and inter-operator reliability. These findings support the use of these methods in clinical settings for assessing scalp dandruff, emphasizing the need for comprehensive training to ensure accurate results.

Participants question the belief in scalp tension theory, suggesting it may be a marketing tactic, while others argue for a multifactorial approach to hair loss.
