TLDR A woman with dermatomyositis showed rare skin symptoms, was treated successfully, and her case suggests checking for cancer in similar patients.
The document reports on a 53-year-old woman diagnosed with dermatomyositis (DM) who exhibited symptoms of both pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) and porokeratosis, known as type Wong dermatomyositis. This is the first case of type Wong DM reported with porokeratosis features. The presence of these conditions in adult-onset DM may indicate an underlying malignancy, suggesting the need for cancer screening. The patient responded positively to treatment with methotrexate and corticosteroids, which led to the clearing of skin lesions and hair regrowth. The case underscores the importance of recognizing such skin manifestations in DM for appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
