    TLDR Hydrogenated palm oil repairs and conditions damaged hair by preventing swelling.
    The study demonstrated that hydrogenated palm oil effectively conditioned and repaired damaged hair by preventing water-induced swelling. TOF-SIMS analysis showed that tripalmitin, a component of hydrogenated palm oil, penetrated the cuticle and outer cortex of damaged hair, which was identified as the mechanism behind the inhibition of hair swelling.
