TLDR Trichotillomania is a chronic hair-pulling disorder that starts in early teens and causes distress and hair loss.
Trichotillomania (TTM) is a chronic disorder characterized by compulsive hair pulling, leading to noticeable hair loss and significant distress. It affects 1% to 3% of the population, with an average onset age of 11 to 13 years. Children with TTM often face peer teasing, avoid social activities, struggle with school concentration, and may experience medical issues due to their behavior. The severity of TTM typically fluctuates over time.
