TLDR Hair disorders in organ transplant patients are often underestimated and need more attention and research.
This literature review addresses the underexplored issue of hair disorders in organ transplant recipients, particularly focusing on the impact of immunosuppressive medications. It reveals a gap between patient-reported alopecia rates and physician perceptions, indicating that hair disorders may be underestimated. The review emphasizes the need for greater awareness and management of these trichological complications, which can significantly affect the quality of life, especially for women and teenagers. It calls for further research to understand the prevalence, patterns, and mechanisms of hair disorders post-transplantation and to develop effective therapeutic interventions.
