Traditional Uses and Pharmacologically Active Constituents of Dendrobium Plants for Dermatological Disorders: A Review

This review highlighted the traditional uses and pharmacologically active constituents of Dendrobium plants for treating dermatological disorders. It was found that 22 Dendrobium species were traditionally used for skin-related issues, and 131 compounds from these plants exhibited activities such as anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiaging, anti-psoriasis, and tyrosinase inhibition. The review emphasized the importance of Dendrobium plants as resources for discovering active compounds and developing new drugs and cosmetics. Notably, species like D. crepidatum, D. denneanum, D. loddigesii, D. nobile, and D. officinale were extensively studied. Key active compounds included phenanthrenes, alkaloids, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, and lignans, with several showing significant anti-inflammatory activities and potential for further research.
