TLDR Organic trace minerals can temporarily improve cat hair health and reduce hair loss.
A 90-day study with 40 adult shorthair cats examined the effects of supplemental trace minerals on hair growth and coat quality. Cats were divided into two groups: one received inorganic trace minerals, and the other received organic trace minerals complexed with lysine and glutamic acid. By day 45, the organic trace mineral group showed reduced hair loss and improved haircoat scores, but these benefits were not sustained by day 90. The study suggests that organic trace minerals can temporarily enhance skin health and reduce hair loss, though the benefits are transient and warrant further research to understand their long-term effects and mechanisms.
