TLDR Topical treatments like AHAs, BHAs, and urea may help keratosis pilaris, but evidence is limited.
This review discusses the use of topical keratolytics, such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), and urea, as treatments for keratosis pilaris (KP), a common skin condition characterized by rough, keratotic papules. While these treatments show potential benefits in reducing symptoms by improving skin texture and hydration, the evidence supporting their effectiveness is limited due to small study sizes, varied outcome measures, and short follow-up periods. Additionally, there is a lack of long-term maintenance data and differentiation between different KP phenotypes.
