Topical Estrogen Therapy for Androgenetic Alopecia in Menopausal Females

This study examined the efficacy and safety of topical estrogens as a treatment for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in menopausal females. 75 postmenopausal women were randomized into three groups - one receiving treatment with an estradiol valerate lotion for 12 weeks, another group receiving treatment for 24 weeks, and a placebo group for 24 weeks. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between the treatment and placebo groups, with the treatment groups showing improvement in terms of decreased telogen rate and increased anagen rate. There were no significant side effects reported, although two patients did experience post-menopausal bleeding during the course of treatment.
