As of 2013, hair loss, particularly Androgenetic alopecia (AGA), was a common issue with significant psychosocial impact. Minoxidil was the only approved topical treatment for AGA, despite the availability of various therapies. However, new promising topical agents were under investigation for hair growth promotion.
