TLDR Tirzepatide may improve hair loss by reducing insulin resistance.
A case study of a 57-year-old man with androgenic alopecia demonstrated that treatment with tirzepatide, a GLP-1 agonist, led to significant improvement in hair density within 6 months, alongside weight loss and improved insulin resistance. This suggests that addressing insulin resistance may positively impact hair loss in patients with metabolic syndrome. While some studies have not found a significant link between insulin resistance and androgenic alopecia, others have shown a clear association. The case highlights the potential of tirzepatide to mitigate the miniaturization of hair follicles by reducing insulin resistance, warranting further investigation into GLP-1 agonists as a treatment for alopecia.
