TLDR Thyroid hormone imbalances can cause hair loss in alopecia patients.
The study "Thyroidism Effect on Alopecia Patients In Pakistan" conducted by Muhhamd Waqar Mazhar from the School of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, Government college University, Faisalabad, Pakistan, examined the impact of thyroid hormone imbalances on hair loss. The study involved 82 patients from different regions of south Punjab. The research found that an excessive amount of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) can lead to hair loss. In cases of hyperthyroidism, hair bulb cell proliferation increases, leading to increased hair fall, while in hypothyroidism, the bulb cell proliferation reduces, also resulting in hair loss. Some alopecia patients recorded high levels of TSH. The patients were treated with thyroxin tablets to reduce TSH levels, followed by treatment with hair fin tab, folli one shampoo, wistin tab, and multivitamins. The growth of hair follicles and hairs were recorded after treatment, indicating that these treatments are effective for hair growth in alopecia patients.
