TLDR Thymosin β4 helps heal wounds, grow hair, and improve blood vessel formation.
Thymosin β4 was found to promote angiogenesis, wound healing, and hair follicle development. It was particularly effective in aged animals, where it increased angiogenesis, keratinocyte and endothelial cell migration, and decreased inflammation. In studies involving aged mice, thymosin β4 was applied topically to wounds, resulting in increased granulation tissue and collagen deposition, as well as improved wound closure. Additionally, thymosin β4 promoted hair follicle growth in rats, nude mice, and aged mice, potentially due to its angiogenic activity and effects on stem cell migration. The active site for these effects was localized to a seven amino acid internal actin-binding sequence.
