TLDR SH-MSCs can improve hair growth by balancing gene expressions in fluconazole-related hair loss.
Fluconazole-related alopecia is linked to increased IL-1β and decreased PDGF. This study investigated the therapeutic potential of secretomes from hypoxic mesenchymal stem cells (SH-MSCs) in regulating these gene expressions. Using six rats per group, the study compared a positive control, a negative control with fluconazole, and two groups treated with 10% and 20% SH-MSCs. After 29 days, SH-MSCs significantly increased PDGF and decreased IL-1β expression, with the highest PDGF expression and lowest IL-1β expression in the 20% SH-MSC group. Histopathological analysis showed improved hair follicle tissue, suggesting SH-MSCs as a promising topical treatment for fluconazole-related alopecia.

The user experienced significant hair improvement with minoxidil and finasteride but later faced shedding and diffused thinning after developing seborrheic dermatitis. They are seeking advice after trying treatments like ketoconazole, coal tar shampoos, fluconazole, and hydrocortisone cream.

Ketoconazole 2% shampoo stopped a user's severe hair shedding after just two uses, a result not achieved by finasteride or oral minoxidil. Some users suggest the shampoo's anti-androgenic properties may help with hair loss, while others think the shedding might have stopped naturally or due to the end of a shedding phase.
