The Role of the VEGF, KGF, EGF, and TGF-β1 Growth Factors in the Pathogenesis of Telogen Effluvium in Women

The 2017 study by A. A. Kubanov et al. involved 30 women with telogen effluvium, a common hair loss condition, and 8 healthy volunteers. The research aimed to understand the role of growth factors VEGF, KGF, EGF, and TGF-β1 in the development of this condition. The results showed that all these growth factors significantly influenced the development of telogen effluvium, with VEGF having the greatest impact and EGF the least. The study concluded that these growth factors are interrelated and affect each other in both regulating and controlling manner, suggesting the need for further research to find other regulatory substances and mechanisms of hair growth and loss.
