The ‘melanocyte-keratin’ mystery revisited: neither normal human epidermal nor hair follicle melanocytes express keratin 16 or keratin 6in situ

TLDR Human melanocytes in skin and hair follicles don't express keratin 16 or 6 naturally.
The study revisited the expression of keratin 16 (K16) and keratin 6 (K6) in human melanocytes, specifically those located in the epidermis and hair follicles. It concluded that these melanocytes did not express K16 or K6 while in their natural environment. This finding was significant in understanding the behavior and characteristics of melanocytes in situ, contributing to the broader knowledge of skin and hair follicle biology.
