TLDR Properly administered testosterone therapy is safe and effective but often not covered by insurance.
As men aged, testosterone levels decreased, leading to various health issues such as reduced well-being, increased sarcopenia, cardiovascular risks, and bone loss. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) became popular, but some physicians were hesitant due to studies suggesting cardiovascular risks. However, most clinical studies indicated that properly administered TRT, with controlled estradiol and dihydrotestosterone levels, did not increase myocardial infarction risk. Compounded testosterone troches, combined with aromatase and 5α-reductase inhibitors, effectively optimized testosterone levels and were cost-effective. Despite evidence of health benefits, insurance coverage for these treatments was often denied, and some physicians were influenced by flawed studies against prescribing TRT.
