TLDR The flower extract lowered testosterone, progesterone, and related gene expression in male rats.
The study evaluated the effects of phenolic extract from Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L. flowers on testosterone and progesterone levels, as well as gene expression of androgen and progesterone receptors in 32 albino male rats. Results indicated a significant decrease (p<0.05) in testosterone and progesterone levels, and a significant reduction (p<0.05) in the expression of androgen and progesterone receptors in testicular cells of treated rats compared to control groups after 30 and 60 days of treatment with 300 mg/kg/day of the extract.
