TLDR Terminalia chebula fruit extract helps hair growth by reducing DHT and boosting hair cell activity.
The study explores the effects of Terminalia chebula fruit extract (TCFE) on hair growth, particularly for treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA). TCFE was found to promote hair growth by activating Wnt/β-catenin and TGF-β signaling pathways in dermal papilla cells (DPCs), inhibiting type II 5α-reductase activity, and enhancing dihydrotestosterone (DHT) metabolism. In a mouse model of AGA, TCFE effectively reversed hair loss and promoted regrowth, showing efficacy similar to finasteride but through different mechanisms. The study suggests TCFE as a promising natural treatment for AGA, though further research is needed to identify specific active components and their molecular mechanisms.
