TLDR Parental uveitis increases offspring's risk and severity of autoimmune eye disease.
The study investigated the impact of parental uveitis on offspring's development and susceptibility to experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) in B10RIII mice. Offspring from parents with uveitis exhibited hair loss, delayed eye opening, and swollen spleens, and showed increased susceptibility to EAU with earlier onset and higher severity compared to controls. Gene expression analysis revealed differentially expressed genes related to immune and cell development processes. The study concluded that parental uveitis could enhance offspring's susceptibility to EAU, likely by altering cell adhesion molecules and antigen processing, affecting T-cell proliferation and Th17 response.
