TLDR Traditional Chinese medicine for hair loss focuses on "tonifying and activating blood, nourishing the liver and kidney."
The study utilized R-language data mining on 163 patents from the National Patent Office to analyze traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compounds for hair loss. It identified 372 Chinese medicines, with a focus on lateral cypress leaf, Angelica sinensis, and He Shouwu. The medicinal properties were primarily warm, cold, and calm, with flavors of bitterness, sweetness, and pungency, and were attributed to the liver, lung, and spleen meridians. The core medication concept for treating alopecia areata is "tonifying and activating blood, nourishing the liver and kidney." This research provides insights into the core drug combinations and compounding rules, supporting the optimization of clinical use and new drug development.
