TLDR Rice bran extract can help with hair growth, thickness, and color.
This systematic review examines the application of rice bran extract (RB) from Oryza sativa in hair and scalp products, highlighting its potential to promote hair growth, thickness, density, and color. RB contains bioactive compounds such as γ-oryzanol, tocopherols, tocotrienols, phytosterols, and fatty acids, which contribute to its beneficial effects. Studies indicate that γ-oryzanol and linoleic acid promote hair growth, while other components inhibit 5α-reductase activity, which is linked to hair loss. Additionally, RB's antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, along with its ability to increase melanogenesis, support its use in preventing hair graying and treating androgenic alopecia. The review underscores the historical use of RB in hair care and calls for further scientific validation of its therapeutic efficacy and safety.
