Synergistic Larvicidal Activity of Jacquinia Ruscifolia Flowers and Thuja Orientalis Strobili Petroleum Ether Extract Against Culex Quinquefasciatus

    Sanjukta Mandal, Goutam Chandra
The study investigated the synergistic larvicidal activity of Jacquinia ruscifolia flowers and Thuja orientalis strobili petroleum ether extract against third-instar Culex quinquefasciatus larvae. The research found that a combination of these extracts, particularly in a 1:2 ratio, resulted in 100% mortality at a concentration of 250 ppm after 72 hours, indicating strong synergism as evidenced by a synergistic factor (SF) greater than 1. Phytochemical analyses revealed the presence of functional groups such as alkane, aldehyde, and ester, and identified five active compounds, including Scopolamine and Pyrrolidinium derivatives, contributing to the larvicidal effect.
