TLDR Combining DHT and EDC improves the strength and stability of PADM scaffolds for tissue engineering.
The study demonstrated that combining dehydrothermal (DHT) and carbodiimide (EDC) crosslinking significantly enhanced the physicochemical properties and biostability of porcine acellular dermal matrix (PADM) scaffolds. This combined treatment improved tensile strength and crosslink density without compromising the three-dimensional architecture or introducing cytotoxicity. The DHT+EDC crosslinked scaffolds showed increased resistance to degradation and thermal treatment compared to scaffolds treated with either method alone, indicating a synergistic effect beneficial for tissue engineering applications.
