TLDR High-dose vitamin D3 does not improve symptoms or quality of life in COVID-19 patients after one year.
This study investigated the effects of a single 200,000 IU dose of vitamin D3 on persistent or new symptoms and quality of life (QoL) in patients with moderate to severe COVID-19, 1 year post-hospitalization. Conducted as a post-hoc analysis of a multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial in São Paulo, Brazil, 144 patients were followed up via telephone interviews at 6 and 12 months. The study found no significant differences between the vitamin D3 and placebo groups in terms of fever, cough, fatigue, myalgia, joint pain, and other symptoms, as well as QoL. The results do not support the use of high-dose vitamin D3 for managing persistent or new symptoms and QoL in these patients.
